The Silence of Wednesday

The Silence of Wednesday

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled
in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,
and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill Him.
Matthew 26:3-4

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the
chief priests to betray Jesus to them.  They were delighted
to hear this and promised to give him money.  So he
watched for an opportunity to betray Him.
Mark 14:10-11

The Bible does not indicate what Jesus and eleven of the disciples were doing on Wednesday of Holy Week, but Judas Iscariot was off on his own little side game.  He went to Jerusalem to see the religious leaders and offered his services as a betrayer in exchange for a payment of silver.  Whatever possessed Judas to do this, we will never know.  But we do know that in the silence of that ordinary Wednesday, Judas made the decision to turn his back on the One who had guided him for the last three and a half years as friend, as mentor, as Messiah.  That decision would cost him more than he could ever have imagined.

In the midst of a world that is clamoring for our attention and our allegiance, be sure that your eyes are open to exactly who Jesus Christ is:  your friend, your anchor, your Savior.

Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus,
to reach out and touch Him, and say that we love Him.
Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen.
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.
