A Quarrelsome Wife
A quarrelsome wife is like
a constant dripping on a rainy day.
Proverbs 27:15
I have always
wondered about King Solomon and his extensive harems – 700 wives and 300
concubines. If he was to keep friendly
relationships with his wives, he would have to spend time with at least two of
them each day – every day. Talk about a
headache.
Apparently things
went downhill when the women were quarreling.
In our text above, Solomon likened
a quarrelsome wife to a constant drip of water. He said the same in Proverbs 19:13:
A foolish son is his father’s ruin,
and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant
dripping.
In Proverbs 21:19, he said:
Better to live in a desert than with
a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.
In Proverbs 21:9
and 25:24 he proclaimed:
Better to live on the corner of the roof
than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.
With the number of
wives that Solomon had to please, one wonders how much time he spent on the
roof!

Happy the home where Jesus’ name
Is sweet to every ear;
Where children early lisp His fame,
And parents hold Him dear.
