Quarreling in General
Without wood a fire goes out.
Without gossip a quarrel dies down.
Proverbs 26:20
It is a man’s honor to avoid strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel.
Proverbs 20:3
Yesterday we
looked at King Solomon’s thoughts on a quarrelsome wife. He did not restrict his opinions on
quarreling to just women, however. This
is one of my favorite proverbs:
Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam,
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks
out!
Proverbs 17:14
I would have saved
myself many a headache if I had remembered this verse and dropped the matter. Very little in life is worth quarreling
about. As my father would say, “It takes
two to tango,” and usually it's because someone has to have the last word! It is a challenge to "agree to disagree," but it is worth the effort.
