Blessed are those who are persecuted
because of righteousness,
For theirs in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:10
Let’s start
with the basics: We know that we have no
righteousness of our own. The prophet
Isaiah says: All of us have become
like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. So
whose righteousness does Jesus see us being hated for? His righteousness.
When we go on this Beatitude journey of becoming like Christ, there are going to be those who will not be fans of the changes that happen in our lives. We will sometimes be lied about, backstabbed, majorly misunderstood, made fun of, rejected – all because we are trying to live like Jesus. But the end result will be an eternity with Jesus in His kingdom.
