Some Thoughts on the Wedding Parable

Some Thoughts on the Wedding Parable

The Ten Girls
All of them were “virgins” - pure in character and in their faith

The Lamps
All of them had a lamp.
“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

The Delay
All of them grew weary in waiting for the Lord, and all fell asleep.

The Defining Difference
All of them had some oil in their lamps, but
only the five “wise” took the time to make provision for additional oil.
Oil is a biblical symbol of the Holy Spirit.

Ask, and it will be given to you.  Seek and you will find.
Knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives, he who seeks finds,
And to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Which of you fathers, if you son asks for a fish,
will give him a snake instead?
If you then, though you are evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.
Luke 11:9-11, 13

*
I want to walk as a child of the light,
I want to follow Jesus.
God set the stars to give light to the world.
The light of my life is Jesus.
In Him there is no darkness at all.
The night and the day are both alike.
The Lamb is the light of the city of God.
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.
The United Methodist Hymnal, No. 206
