And David was greatly distressed, for
the people spoke of stoning him,
because the soul of all the people was grieved,
every man for his sons and for his daughters –
but David found strength in the Lord his
God.
1 Samuel 30:6
David and his band of men had been fleeing from the wrath of King Saul, when David made the mistake of sheltering with the Philistines, the archenemy of God’s people. After a year, the leaders of the Philistines got into a big argument over David’s presence, and the king told David to go home. When he and his men returned to Judah, they found that the Amalekites had burned the city of Ziglag to the ground, and all of the women and children were carried off as slaves, including two of David’s wives.
David’s men
were furious, not at the Amalekites, but at him, and threatened to kill
him. Their wives and children were in
grave peril. This time, however, David
did not say, “This is how we are going to fix this.” Instead, He realized that the His strength came
from his heavenly Father, and he sought counsel from the Lord. God directed him to go after the Amalekites
and He would be with them. Tomorrow we
will take a look at the surprise assistance that God provided.
You are my hiding place,
You always fill my heart with songs of
deliverance,
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in
You.
I will trust in you. Let the weak say:
I am strong in the strength of the Lord.
I will trust in you.
