The Lord Bless You and Keep You

The Lord bless you and keep you,

The Lord make His face shine upon you

And be gracious unto you;

The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.

Numbers 6:24-26

I have sung these words for years – ever since joining my church choir at the age of twelve.  The version  by Peter Lutkin that our choir sang has a seven-fold Amen as an ending – amens that soar higher and higher then drop to quiet gratitude. 

All this time, I had no idea that this beautiful blessing is a direct quote from the Old Testament.  God gave these words to Moses to pass on to Aaron.  “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell Aaron and his sons:  This is how you are to bless the Israelites.’”  I pray we may have the same blessing for our lives today.
